Welcome.  Harm Reduction Counseling is focused on providing compassionate mental health counseling to individuals who are coping with chronic anxiety, relationship concerns, or are seeking to change or examine their substance use patterns.

 

philosophy of care

Successful therapy rests primarily on people feeling safe, understood, and having the freedom to create their own goals, rather than stemming from any particular treatment method.  It is important to offer transparent, kind, flexible, and attuned therapy in order for people to feel comfortable enough to grow.

anxiety management

Many of the people who come to therapy struggle to manage their feelings of anxiety, whether that be social anxiety, panic, or intrusive thoughts.  One of the most important element of working with anxiety is creating strategies focused on decreasing the symptoms, as well as creating a calm space to reflect on the possible causes and novel solutions. The plan we create together will like include some combination of learning how to manage attacks in the moment, as well as working calming routines into day to day life.

SUBTANCE USE

There are many ways to approach working with substance use and it is important to find what the right one is for you. Many people come in wishing to reduce or change their substance use, some to stop altogether, and others don’t know what outcome they are looking for but know that managing their substance use is a big part of their life. We can work together to find a plan that works uniquely for your substance use patterns.

Most anything can be placed in the category of life transition, which is helpful since many of the things people seek therapy for don’t fit neatly into any particular diagnostic category. You may just need to see if talking something out is helpful for you. Perhaps something is happening in your life and you would like someone to check in with, seek support from, or talk through what is going on right now.

FEES for services

  • Individual sessions are on a sliding scale based on income.

  • I am happy to provide a receipt for insurance companies that provide out of network coverage.
